"Vielfalter" (= manifold) 2010 from the Frankonian estate Hofmann
 a dry, fruity & crisp white blend from the grapes 'Bacchus' & 'Müller-Thurgau' - nicely cooled, it goes very well with a Braai, salad or Sushi; at EUR 5,50/bottle excellent value for money

Cultivar Selection Malbec 2006 from the estate Blaauwklippen at Stellenbosch / South Africa
deep red, soft & berry Malbec which has been in oak barrels (Blaauwklippen is the first SA wine estate which uses the grape Malbec which usually is only found in South America); sells at EUR 12,00 per bottle

Wines we like

We love dry & fruity wines. When talking about red wines, we prefer the ones with a beery flavour. As a white wine, we go for a Sauvignon Blanc or a Chenin Blanc / Blanc de Blanc.

Our No. 1 favourite is and remains the 'Zinfandel' from the wine estate Blaauwklippen in South Africa. Blaauwklippen 's estate is beautifully located in the Stellenbosch area. Their wines can be bought in Europe as well but they offered me a direct shipment (estate to airport) to Germany. During our tour to South Africa in March 2004, we came across other very nice wines:

  • the Pinotage and the Cabernet Sauvignon from Dieu Donne Vineyards
  • the Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon fromMoreson; Moreson' has got a second label 'Pinehurst' : these wines are still very good but more affordable
  • he Merlot and the Shiraz from Thelema
  • the Devonet (Blend / Cuvee of Merlot & Pinotage), the Cabernet/Shiraz and the Auret (their flagship) from Clos Malverne
  • the Buiten Blanc and the Cabernet Sauvignon from Buitenverwachting in the Constantia / Capetown area

We have got details of most of the agents importing South African wine to Europe / Germany. Depending on it's quality and the wine estate, South African wine can be purchased from about EUR 10 / bottle. If you are interested in South African wines, please send your mail to Carrotkingatt-online.de (pls replace at by @ ). I would then try to organize a collective order.
And when you are in South Africa / winelands, do not miss out on the wine estate Boschendal. Apart from having an excellent white wine (the Boschendal Grand Vin Blanc), their estate is beautifully located on the main road from Franschhoek to Stellenbosch. They also offer the possibility for a pique-nique on their lawn

The basket as well as their wines can be purchased from 12 o'clock onwards. Pre-booking is essential for this treat.
